Plastic mould construction
Plastic injection moulds are designed and manufactured in the Metalstampi tooling department.
Starting from a customer-supplied model, the work is designed and developed using CAD/CANt workstations and then the material is processed using high-tech machinery.
What is plastic mould construction?
Plastic moulds are essential tools for the production of a wide range of plastic products, from bottles to automotive parts. These moulds are precision-made to ensure the repeatability and quality of plastic parts produced through injection or extrusion. Mould construction requires an in-depth knowledge of plastic materials, processing techniques and the specific requirements of the end product, all of which Metalstampi is renowned for.
How plastic moulds are made: the stages
The process of constructing a plastic mould can vary depending on the complexity of the part to be produced and the type of machinery and materials used. It is important to rely on experienced professionals such as Metalstampi technicians to ensure that the mould is made correctly and produces high-quality parts efficiently.
Design
This is the initial and most critical stage of the process. Engineers design the plastic mould according to the specifications of the plastic part to be produced. The design of the mould casing includes cooling channels, injection system, the core and cavity. Computer-aided design (CAD) software is commonly used at this stage.
Mould construction
Once the model is completed, the craftsmen start constructing the actual plastic mould. This involves the construction of the core and cavity, as well as the assembly of other parts of the mould. This stage requires precision and attention to detail to ensure that the mould functions properly.
Types of mould construction
Metalstampi creates moulds for such things as electronic components, knobs, handles, boxes/bearings, bushings and moulded parts with metal inserts.
